Travel GuideFounded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, Jodhpur is the second largest city of Rajasthan. It was once the capital of the Marwar state. In medieval times, Jodhpur lays on the trade routes between Central Asia and the ports of Gujarat, and became a major trade centre during the 16th century. Modern day Jodhpur has a population of over six hundred thousand. Situated at the edge of Thar Desert, Jodhpur is also known as the blue city. It is one of the most vibrant cities of legendry Rajasthan. Jodhpur has also a military and air force station and has a large cantonment and airbase. The City is famous for its textiles and crafts. The traditional lifestyle and festivity of Jodhpur attract the tourist the most.

Marwar Festival: This major festival of Jodhpur is held in
October. It celebrates the culture and art of Marwar region. Performance
by the folk artistes is the main attraction of this festival. Other
important events of this festival are horse riding and horse polo.
Mehrangarh Fort: One of the largest forts India, this majestic fort is located at the center of the city. Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace), Phool Mahal (Flower Palace), Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace), Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are some of the important palaces and apartments in the fort.
Jaswant Thada: It is the graceful marble cenotaph of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II.
It was built in 1899 A.D and known as the Taj mahal of Marwar.
Umaid Bhawan Palace: The Palace was built by Maharaja Umaid
Singhji in 1829. The palace is also known as Chhittar Palace. It was
completed in sixteen years. It has a collection of miniature paintings,
crafts and royal.
Oisyan : 65 km, An ancient town of the Thar desert with a cluster of ruined Brahmanical & Jain worth seeing temples are here. Some of the famous temples are Sun temple & Sanchiya Mata temple.
